Dr Oz: Should You Eliminate Carbonated Drinks?
First, they looked at eliminating carbonated beverages. She shared that she typically drinks carbonated beverages 3-4 times a week with lunch. He used a demonstration to show eliminating carbonated beverages might work to prevent heartburn. He showed that when you drink water, the stomach fills up. There’s a sphincter that prevents what’s in your stomach from going back up again. When you drink carbonated liquid, the stomach expands, sometimes causing burping. That could lead to acid reflux.
Dr Oz: Prop Your Bed Up To Prevent Acid Reflux
Another possible remedy for avoiding heartburn, is to sleep on your back, with your upper body elevated on top of a pillow, which obviously isn’t too comfortable. Dr Oz explained that it actually does work, however, because gravity keeps the acid down. He likes to actually raise his entire bed up using books underneath the headboard, to create an incline with your mattress. So your options are to either prop your bed up by just six inches, or sleep on a wedge-shaped pillow.
