Love pasta, but hate carbs? Dr Oz asked experts to share low-carb, low-calorie swaps like Shirataki Noodles, Kelp Noodles, and a Zucchini Lasagna Swap.

Fettuccine Alfredo is a creamy, cheesy meal. Michelle told Dr Oz that she wanted to cut down on carbs because she started having some digestive sensitivity. She felt better and even lost a few pounds after eliminating carbohydrates from her diet.

Nutritionist Peggy Kotsopolis is the host and author of Kitchen Cures. She suggested that Michelle try using Shirataki Noodles instead of fettuccine. This gives you extra fiber, and her family did not know the difference between the two. They could also lower blood sugar and cholesterol.

A traditional serving would have 670 calories and 36 grams of carbs per serving, but Shirataki Noodles have 520 calories and just 4 grams of carbs.

Dr Oz: Kelp Noodles Pesto Swap

Pesto has a nutty flavor, and Basil makes a fresh canvas for your favorite protein with noodles. Caroline said that it is her favorite, but she hoped to find a low-carb alternative. Pesto sauce is healthy on its own, so changing the noodles can make it even better.

Dietitian Ashley Koff suggested Kelp Noodles as a swap for making Pesto. These contain more iodine, and it’s a palatable sea vegetable. Dr Oz pointed out that noodle swaps only need to recreate the texture of what they’re replacing, because the sauce is where the taste comes in.

A traditional Pesto might have 384 calories and 42 grams of carbs, but making it with Kelp Noodles could cut that down to 168 calories and only 2 grams of carbs.

Dr Oz: Zucchini Lasagna Swap

Melissa’s family loves to enjoy lasagna together. It is warm and gooey but not always healthy. Dr Oz deployed his daughter, Daphne Oz from The Chew, with a solution that could work for you.

Alternate layers of pasta with thin sliced zucchini when you are preparing your lasagna. It still tastes great, but it cuts out half the pasta and lowers the carbs. When Melissa tried this with her kids, they had no idea she made the change.

Traditional lasagna has about 580 calories and 53 carbs per serving. Zucchini can lower those numbers to 390 calories and 17 grams of fat, and that’s only replacing half the noodles.
