Dr Oz: Paula Deen’s Health Secrets
Celebrity chef and Southern icon Paula Deen’s Health Secrets were big news over the last year. From the Paula Deen Diabetes Controversy to her shocking confessions about smoking and agoraphobia, who knew that so much was going on outside her country kitchen? Something about Dr Oz’s medical degree seems to make even the biggest stars let down their guard around him, and Paula Deen was no exception. Dr Oz looked back at their recent chat.
Dr Oz: Paula Deen Diet
Paula Deen’s Health Secrets included her admission this year that she suffers from Type 2 Diabetes, which is clearly linked to some of her decadent Southern recipes. She admitted that she’s not happy with her health, and she eats too much fried chicken or pork.
She admitted there’s always room for improvement, and she knows she could lower the number of prescription medications she takes if she would focus on improving her various bad habits. She said she “lived life large every day,” and at age 64 she knows she could make healthier choices. I have to admit, she doesn’t look that bad for 64, but still, you can’t put butter on everything.
Dr Oz: Paula Deen’s Health Secrets: Agoraphobia
Paula Deen shocked Dr Oz by admitting she has Agoraphobia, which is a fear of leaving the house or being out in public. She self-diagnosed this issue years ago because she couldn’t afford doctor visits. These days, she thinks of herself as a functioning Agoraphobic, noting that some days are better than others.
Her biggest business defeat sent her retreating to her Albany, Georgia home. She said she would rather have died than face her failures, because she didn’t know how to move on. Prior to that point, she’d been a social person, but it’s taken the last 20 years for her to be comfortable in crowds once again.
Dr Oz: Paula Deen’s Favorite Southern Menu
Here’s the menu for Paula Deen’s favorite Southern Meal:
- Fried Chicken
- Mashed Potatoes
- Peach Cobbler
- Coconut Pie
She loves French fries, but said that success hasn’t changed her life very much. She couldn’t live without her deep fryer, but there was one bad habit she wanted to kick: smoking.
Dr Oz: Paula Deen Cigarette Smoking
For the last 50 years, Paula Deen has smoked a pack and a half of cigarettes. Since she doesn’t drink or do drugs, she said this is her only vice. Though she’d like to quit, she didn’t believe it was plausible at her age. Maybe she needs some motivation from Jennifer Hudson.
