Dr Oz: Transformation Nation Finalists

All season long, viewers have been working hard to change their lifestyles and learn new fitness habits in Dr Oz’s Transformation Nation Million Dollar You contest. Before the ultimate grand prize winner was revealed, Dr Oz looked back at how far everyone has come. He also met with the 10 finalists to get insights on what worked for them as they changed their lifestyles and focused on being healthier. First up were Karl Nielsen, Stella Ortega, and Mary Ellen Brunaugh, who shared their diet tips.

Dr Oz: Stella Ortega

Stella Ortega is a 55-year-old woman who had heart problems as well as high blood pressure. Her doctor expected her to eventually need a pacemaker, but she got inspired by Dr Oz’s Transformation Nation plan, and over the months has gone from size 16 to size 6. Her heart is much healthier and she feels like she is living a whole new life.

Stella’s Diet Tips: Stella said she used to overeat. Now she eats smaller meals in between her regular meals to remain full on healthier foods throughout the day. She enjoys snacking on walnuts, pumpkin seeds, and almonds.

Dr Oz: Karl Nielsen

Karl Nielsen works as a teacher and coach. He started the program at 317 pounds, and he didn’t like the person he had become. He was a pack a day smoker with high blood pressure. But now he’s lost 88 pounds and is in much better health.

Karl’s Diet Tips: Karl said that his favorite trick is working out while watching TV. He rides his exercise bike while watching favorite shows, and it makes the workout fly by in no time.

Dr Oz: Mary Ellen Brunaugh

Mary Ellen is a 65-year-old woman who was overweight and bound for an early death. But through regular exercise and a healthier diet plan, she has shed pounds and is now a size 4. She is living proof that it’s never too late to take control and change your life.

Mary Ellen’s Diet Tips: Have a high protein breakfast. Protein gives you energy and keeps you full until your next mealtime. She suggested having your protein rich breakfast within an hour of getting out of bed.

Dr Oz: Byron Lars Dress Review

Heidi was not one of the finalists, but she was in the audience because she is a Transformation Nation success story. She shared the story of shopping for a wedding dress and learning that she had to order the biggest size. After that disappointment, she took on the Million Dollar You challenge and lost 100 pounds. Dr Oz was moved by her story and asked Byron Lars, a stylist whose clients include First Lady Michelle Obama, to custom design a dress for Heidi.
