Dr. Oz has gone over countless weight loss programs, diets and fitness plans on his show and I am sure everyone is asking him all the time which one is the best. To answer the question he shared the diet that has been ranked number one by medical experts three years in a row. The DASH Diet, which stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension, was originally created to help people lower their blood pressure but it was found to have many other health and weight loss benefits as well.
Dr Oz: DASH Diet Reduces Risk For Heart Attack
Dr. Caroline Apovian told Dr. Oz the DASH Diet has been ranked the number one diet so many times because research has shown it has many benefits beyond just weight loss. It has been found to lower blood pressure, lower risk of diabetes, reduce the risk for heart attack and reduce the risk of stroke, on top of being excellent for weight loss. It is also continually named the number one diet in America because it is easy to follow and uses many foods you can find right at the nearest grocery store. Dr Oz: DASH Diet, a Common Sense Diet
Dr. Adam Glasgow, a weight loss surgeon, told Dr. Oz the DASH Diet is a common sense diet because it includes fruits and vegetables which help with weight loss. He said these are types of foods he tells his weight loss patients to eat because of the long-term benefits they possess. Dr. Glasgow joked that the only thing the DASH Diet doesn’t have is a celebrity to promote how great it is. With Dr. Oz giving it some attention, I am sure people are going to take notice of it now.

Kristin Kirkpatrick, a registered dietitian, said the diet is based on eating a balanced diet that gives the body the nutrition it needs. Kirkpatrick added the DASH Diet is not about eliminating certain foods from your diet, but instead about learning to eat a healthy diet in the right proportions, something that she said is the key to taking weight off.

- 6-8 Servings whole grains every day
- 4-5 Servings of fruits & vegetables every day
- 2-3 Servings of low-fat dairy per day
- 6 or fewer ounces per day of lean meat, fish or poultry
- 4-5 servings per week of nuts, legumes and seeds
- 5 or less servings per week of sweets
Dr Oz: DASH Diet Success
Dr. Oz challenged three women to try out the DASH Diet for a week and all of them loved it. They all said it was easy to follow and they were all able to lose a few pounds in just one week. They all said they were excited to continue using the DASH Diet.
