Dr. Oz: Wear a Bra to Sleep?
One woman asked Dr. Oz if crossing her legs would stop her from getting varicose veins. Dr. Oz said that is a myth. Another woman from the audience asked Dr. Oz if wearing a bra to sleep can stop her breasts from sagging. She heard the myth from her aunt who is 93 years old and looking great according to the woman.
The woman said she has been sleeping with a bra on for a very long time and believes her breasts are staying perkier because of it. Dr. Oz told her it was myth, wearing a bra to bed will not keep the breasts from becoming saggier.
Why Do Breasts Sag?
Dr. Oz explained the breasts start to sag because the ligaments holding the breasts up become weaker with age. While wearing a bra, the ligaments will still be weak but the bra will support the breast. Dr. Oz said there is nothing you can do to keep the breasts from sagging further and further.
Dr. Oz: Changing Breasts Texture
The woman also asked if it was normal that her breasts were starting to feel different. She said her breasts were becoming softer and a bit lumpier, sort of like mashed potatoes. Her analogy, not mine.
Dr. Oz said it is normal for a women’s breasts to change how they feel as they become older. As the breasts lose some of the fiber inside them and as the ligaments become looser, the breasts will start to feel a bit different.
The breasts will also gain more fat inside them making them feel softer. Dr. Oz said the benefits to having this happen later in life is it offers an easier self examination of the breast. It can also make mammograms far more accurate.
