Dr. Oz: Reusable Bags
Everyone wants to help out the environment and one of the easiest ways to cut down on trash in the environment is by using a reusable grocery bag. But did you know your reusable bag could be contaminated with bacteria that could be making you sick?
Dr. Oz: Reusable Shopping Bags Bacteria
Dr. Oz called up a woman from the audience, Jennifer, and asked her to bring her reusable shopping bag. Dr. Oz also said each person in the audience brought their reusable bags to the show to get tested for different bacteria. Dr. Oz took Jennifer’s bag and tested the amount of bacteria on the bag. He said a good number would be below 80.
He didn’t specify what that meant? Maybe 80 means it is kind of clean and there are only 80 different bacteria on the bag. I am not sure. But if you send your bag to a lab and it comes back higher, wash the bag.
Anyway, Jennifer’s bag came back having a number of 1252. What that number means, I have no idea. But Dr. Oz said that was not good, so I’ll take his word for it.
Dr Oz: Best Way to Clean Reusable Shopping Bags and How Often
Dr. Oz said by trying to help the environment a lot of people could be making their families sick. Dr. Oz said yo make sure to wash reusable bags every 10 times the bag is used. Or if you have a plastic bag you use, Dr. Oz recommended using bleach and hot water to kill the bacteria.
He also recommended not putting anything directly into the bag and if you do, to make sure you wash the product before consuming it. Had anyone ever washed their reusable bags? I never even thought I should.
