Dr Oz explained that your microwave can be used for a lot more than just popping popcorn and warming up leftovers. First, one viewer shared that she learned a trick from her husband. She uses the microwave to disinfect kitchen tools, particularly the cutting board. Take a dirty wooden cutting board, pour some soap over it, drip some water over the soap, and then put in the microwave for 60 seconds. Of course, don’t put any metal tools in the microwave!

Dr Oz: Microwave Cake

You can also make a cake in a mug using your microwave, in less than a minute. Gemma shared her recipe: mash a ripe banana, add in a tablespoon of peanut butter, pour in a little sugar, crack in an egg, and then mix until combined. Add in about a tablespoon of cocoa powder before popping in the microwave.

The cake is full of protein, gluten-free and tastes delicious according to Gemma! Give it a try yourself! It’s a great way to practice portion control when you want some cake.

Dr Oz: Quickly Soften Dry Beans

Next, Dr Oz talked to a very busy woman who eats a lot of beans and rice, but doesn’t have time to soak her beans for 24 hours. She uses three cups of water for every one cup of beans, combines them, and then puts in the microwave for 15 minutes, before letting them soak for an hour to let the beans absorb the water.

Dr Oz said it seems too good to be true, but it really worked! You could then use those beans for whatever recipe you wanted. It’s a great way to use dry beans instead of canned beans, and majorly cuts down the prep time!
