Dr Oz: Hormones Control Everything In the Body

Dr. Natasha Turner, author of The Hormone Diet, explained most people will associate hormones with females and menopause but that isn’t the only thing they do. They are responsible for everything happening in your body, from your mood to your appetite to you memory, which is why hormonal balance is so important.

Dr. Oz demonstrated how our bodies are filled with hormones, like estrogen, serotonin, insulin and cortisol, and people hardly notice a problem with their hormones because they are happy. The problems start to occur when outside factors, like chemicals from foods, enter our bodies and begin to disrupt our bodily functions and cause an imbalance. Add on all the other factors that affect your hormones, anything from sleep to stress, and your hormones can become unbalanced which in turn leads to lots of problems.

Dr. Oz went over his Hormone Type Quiz and explained the difference between the three hormone types – hungry, sluggish and moody.

Dr Oz: Hormone Type Quiz

Dr. Natasha Turner helped Dr. Oz create a Hormone Type Quiz to help you determine your hormone type and take control of your body. Answer the questions below and keep reading for an explanation of what your answers mean.

  1. Do you often feel an increased appetite, stressed or feel burned out?
  2. Do you have bloating, acne or disturbed sleep?
  3. Do you have belly fat, “love” handles or back fat?

Dr Oz: Characteristics Of Hungry Hormone Type

Dr. Turner explained if you experience three of the traits above you are a hungry hormone type. She told Dr. Oz a person with a hungry hormone type has an imbalance of insulin and cortisol. The insulin in this type of person’s body is telling them to store fat which means a person with high insulin levels are going to have more fat than someone who does not have high levels of insulin.

Dr Oz: Characteristics Of Moody Hormone Type

For the next Hunger Type Quiz, ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Do you feel irritable, tense or depressed?
  2. Do you have headaches, trouble concentrating or body pain?
  3. Do you carry your fat all over your body?

Dr. Turner explained the moody hormone type is a person who is losing important hormones, like serotonin and dopamine, hormones that control your mood and make you feel good. This can affect your ability to focus or stick to a diet, your concentration levels will be lower and the loss of these hormones can lead to depression. She said anyone with this hormone type needs to focus on restoring the hormones they are missing.

Dr Oz: Characteristics Of Sluggish Hormone Type

Here are the questions for the next hormone type:

  1. Do you feel forgetful, lethargic or unmotivated?
  2. Do you have more wrinkles than usual, thin/dry skin or trouble falling asleep?
  3. Do you have fat in your arms, above your knees or in your belly?

If you have these three traits then you are the sluggish hormone type. Dr. Turner explained this hormone type lacks the hormones that repair and regenerate our bodies. These types of people are missing hormones like DHEA, other growth hormones and melatonin. She added that these hormones are important for helping you sleep at night, keeping your metabolism strong and staying energetic throughout the day.
