Dr Oz: $5 Home Remedies From Harvard Medical School

From laxative addiction to saving money, Dr. Oz sure knows how to transition his shows. Anyways, Dr. Oz is all about helping his viewers save some money so he reached out to some prominent institutions, including the Harvard Medical School, and asked them to come up with $5 fixes to make every day a little easier. Keep reading to find out what they came up with.

Dr. Oz invited Dr. Daria Long Gillespie from the Harvard Medical School to stop by the show and give everyone the $5 fixes they came up with. Dr. Gillespie made sure everyone knew illness never hits at a convenient time and while you will need a visit to the doctor for some things, there are others you can treat effectively with home remedies.

Dr Oz: Home Remedy Recipe for Back Pain, Sore Throat & Bad Breath

Dr. Oz and Dr. Daria Long Gillespie went over the best $5 home remedy for a sore throat, as well as home remedies for tooth aches, bad breath and back pain.

Dr Oz: Frozen Peppermint Oil Back Pain Remedy

Everyone experiences back pain at some time in their life and Dr. Gillespie said she will usually suggest her patient get a massage and ice the back to relieve the pain. Well, the following home remedy has the best of both those worlds and includes peppermint oil to soothe the back pain.

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 drops peppermint oil
  • Freeze in paper cups
  • Massage directly on pain

Dr Oz: $5 Sore Throat Remedy

Most sore throats are caused by minor viruses which usually means you are going to have to see a doctor and get some antibiotics. But if you only have a mild cough and a sore throat, Dr. Gillespie said her home remedy with honey is going to be great for coating the throat and working with the body’s natural defenses. All the ingredients you need are below:

Dr Oz Sore Throat Remedy Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne

Dr Oz Sore Throat Remedy Directions:

  • Mix everything together and take a couple of teaspoons to relieve your cough and sore throat.

Dr Oz: Whole Cloves Tooth Ache Remedy

Dr. Gillespie said this toothache remedy is probably her favorite and is often used in the emergency room when someone comes in complaining of a tooth ache. Dr. Oz tried the remedy on stage and said it numbed his mouth immediately, adding it would definitely work to stop tooth pain. Simply rub whole clove on your mouth and wait for the toothache to stop.

Dr Oz: Home Remedy For Bad Breath

Bad breath is caused by bacteria that builds up on your teeth, on your tongue or on the inside of your mouth, which then gives off that awful sulfur smell. The best way to kill bad breath for under $5 is by eating some parsley. It is often found in products meant to freshen breath, Dr. Gillepsie said. By eating the parsley fresh you are going to be able to freshen your breath without any added chemicals.

About the author

After graduating from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Journalism and Anthropology, I managed a pizza place for a year, while freelancing for various newspapers in the area. Working every weekend in sauna like conditions, never being able to take a day off and being covered in flour is something I will not miss. I hope Recapo has air conditioning.
