Dr Oz: Secrets To Saving Money
Dr Oz was excited to announce that he was going to put money in his viewers’ wallets by helping them save more money at the grocery store, the drugstore, and online. He then proceeded to throw cash into the laps of several audience members, to prove his point. Dr Oz knows that “money alone doesn’t make you happy but being in control of your finances can help your health.”
First, Dr Oz welcomed financial expert Farnoosh Torabi, who explained that money can be a big source of stress when you feel like you don’t have enough of it. She said she was actually in debt before and used some very simple tricks to get out of debt and find financial security. Farnoosh said the money secrets to retail success are out there, you just have to know where to look. She also suggested befriending store staff members in order to find out more about sales and discounts.
Dr Oz: Save Money At The Grocery
First, Dr Oz and Farnoosh looked at how you can save money in the grocery store, saying it all starts with what time you go to the store. Farnoosh said Wednesdays are usually the best days to go because that’s when grocery stores across the country, on average, pull out new sales for the week while still honoring sales from the previous week.
It’s also a good idea to shop in the evenings for things that have a shorter shelf-life, because that’s when those items tend to be “deeply discounted.”
Dr Oz: Save Money On Fresh Produce & Seafood
Dr Oz asked for some of his audience members’ receipts, and pulled out one from a woman named Mary. Mary shared that she spends a lot of money on fruits and vegetables. Farnoosh explained that you actually don’t have to buy fresh produce in the bunches you find it in. Stores will often leave the food in bunches in hopes of getting customers to buy more. You can actually break up the bunches of bananas and only take what you need. The same goes for grapes and tomatoes.
Mary also mentioned that she tends to spend a lot of money on seafood. Farnoosh said it’s a myth that you have to buy fresh fish, because frozen fish is 40% cheaper and in some cases even fresher than fresh fish at the fish counter.
Dr Oz: Drugstore Money Saving Tricks
In order to save money at the drugstore, you can play Farnoosh’s game, which involves three steps. First, take advantage of the weekly sales while also using coupons, and then use your rewards card as well. Everything combined can give you a huge discount on your goods. If you’re really good at the game, you could even walk away with more money in your pocket.
Dr Oz then talked to two women who actually “played the game” themselves to save money on necessities. One woman was able to save 50% on hair and cleaning products. The other woman said she loves to create a game plan before she goes to the store and admitted that she uses the game to save 62% on health products and even soda, although Dr Oz wasn’t too happy about the latter.
Dr Oz: Save Money When Shopping Online
Farnoosh said she really enjoys shopping online because of how easy it is to comparison shop to make sure you’re getting the best deal. You can also use social media to find coupon codes. She suggested doing an online search for coupon codes as well before you make an online purchase just to be sure you’re getting the optimal discount. She was excited to share that she found a leather jacket that’s normally $1,000, for just $99.
One woman in the audience shared a trick she uses to save money on clothes when online shopping. She’ll find something she likes and leave it in her “cart” for a few days. Typically she’ll get an email with some kind of coupon or discount for that item. She held up a sweater that she got for 50% off that way.
