Dr. Alejandro Junger, formerly a cardiologist and author of the book Clean, has decided to focus all his attention on integrative medicine and the effects of detoxing as a medical tool.
Dr. Junger was able to create a detox program which uses 10 specific foods to help cleanse the body without deprivation. While most people do not have long term success with dieting, Dr. Junger said 60 percent of those who follow his plan have found long term success with their weight loss.
The best part about the diet, besides not having to starve yourself, is not having to exercise for the first few days. Dr. Junger explained there is no need to exercise because the body needs all the energy it can get for other purposes. Although you do have to ease yourself back into exercising after a bit, it is still a nice break from the gym.

The first step in Dr. Junger’s detox plan is eliminating the key foods that are making you fat. Although it can be difficult to eliminate some of your favorite foods from your diet, Dr. Junger suggested removing all the fatty foods at the same time, and explained that people who do this often have better results than people who get rid of the foods one by one. He said it is only challenging for the first few days and afterwards you will not miss these foods at all.

- Green leafy vegetables are the kings of detoxing foods, according to Dr. Junger. Foods like broccoli, cauliflower, Swiss chard and brussels sprouts are all good examples.
- Color water fish, such as salmon, are rich in healthy Omega 3 fatty acids and protein while also having the least amount of toxins, making them an excellent detox food choice.
- Free-range, pastured chicken
- Fresh berries are filled with fiber and help to kill your cravings.
- Apple cider vinegar is wonderful in improving digestion.
