Dr Oz: Benefits of Magnesium & Vitamins Magnesium Deficiency

Dr. Oz talks to three women about the benefits of Magnesium and why they need to make sure they have enough in their bodies.

Dr. Oz said there are over 300 different chemical reactions happening in your body each day which require the use of Magnesium. The benefits of Magnesium in the body are it helps maintain normal muscle and nerve function, keeps heart rhythm steady, supports a healthy immune system, and keeps bones strong. Magnesium is also known to be involved in energy metabolism and protein synthesis.


Unfortunately for most people, three out of four to be exact, they do no have the right amount of Magnesium in their bodies each day.

Feeling like you have low energy is most likely from not having enough Magnesium in the body or from not replenishing the Magnesium throughout the day. Magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body and is essential in keeping the body healthy, but keeping your magnesium levels at the right amount can be difficult.

Dr. Oz: Signs of Magnesium Deficiency

Dr. Oz said there are many signs pointing towards a Magnesium deficiency, some of which being irritability, anxiety and a lack of energy. If you feel anxious often, your mind racing, making it hard to think about one topic too long, you may have a Magnesium deficiency.


Low Magnesium levels means the body is working harder which means you are going to have significantly lower energy each day if you do not replenish the Magnesium.

Dr Oz: Magnesium from Vitamins?

Dr. Oz said taking a vitamin each day is not going to replenish your Magnesium levels. Dr. Oz said many pills which claim to have lots of vitamins usually have very little Magnesium because it would make the pill too large. Although some pills have a small amount of Magnesium, it is usually not enough to get through the day. Dr. Oz said the best way to get Magnesium is through eating the right kinds of foods, in the right portions.
