Dr Oz: That’s Awkward: Pee Edition
Doctor Oz has answered plenty of embarrassing questions over the years on his shows. He doesn’t want anyone to have to feel awkward when it comes to health, so he showcased some new Q&A in a segment called That’s Awkward: Pee Edition.
Dr Oz: 5 Stages of Toilet Tissue
Have you ever found yourself in a sticky situation when it comes to toilet tissue? As memorialized in the classic Seinfeld episode, sometimes you don’t realize there is no toilet paper in your stall until it is too late.
According to a silly video Dr Oz showed, there are 5 Stages of Toilet Tissue:
- Panic – realizing the problem
- The Lifeline – reaching under to the next stall
- The Hail Mary – attempting to use the empty roll
- Denial – this can’t be happening!
- The Waddle of Shame – quickly attempting to make a run for it to another stall
Dr Oz: Running Out of Toilet Paper?
Dr Oz recruited an audience volunteer, Anna, who was familiar with this scenario. She was asked to bring her purse, and she recalled finding herself in this situation very recently. She did not know what to do!
He also quizzed the coworkers in his office, and 90% of them said it has happened to them. (But I agree with Dr Oz: it doesn’t seem to happen that much in men’s rooms.) Anna opted for the drip and dry method, complete with a dance move.
Dr Oz said that this can be bad if it makes your underwear wet, attracting bacteria and fungi and possibly leading to a yeast infection.
Dr Oz: Toilet Paper Alternatives
Instead, Dr Oz created an Emergency Toilet Paper Alternative List, made up of things that women may already have in their purses. You need to find something clean and dry, such as:
- Sanitary napkin
- Page from a datebook
- Cotton swab or Q-tip
- Gum wrapper
- A ticket or other paper scrap
- Toilet seat cover
- Empty toilet paper roll
Dr Oz said that “it’s sanitary enough" in a pinch. He also gave Anna a pack of tissues to keep in her purse.
Dr Oz: Asparagus Pee Odor Remedy
Andrea from North Dakota had another embarrassing pee-related question. She said she noticed a pee-related smell. But her gynecologist concluded that she was getting that result from eating too much Asparagus.
Another audience member said she is vegetarian, and she loves Asparagus, but she has noticed Asparagus Pee as well. Dr Oz said that this has been happening for centuries, because some of the acids from the vegetable are not digested.
Doctor Oz suggested drinking a large glass of water when eating Asparagus, to dilute your urine. As an alternative, you can whip up a batch of Pee-pourri. Sprinkle some baking soda into your toilet as you urinate to prevent the smell from lingering.
