One of the most common over-the-counter pain medications is acetaminophen, which is found in Tylenol, and is probably sitting in your medicine cabinet right now. Dr. Oz said there are side effects from taking acetaminophen and you may not even be aware of them. Dr. Devi Nampiaparampil explained taking acetaminophen on daily basis, at a higher dose than is recommended can cause damage to your liver and become deadly.

Dr. Oz went over the dangers for the liver when taking too much acetaminophen, how you can overdose slowly and his all-natural headache relief, magnesium.

Dr. Nampiaparampil noted many people only think you can overdose when you take a large amount of pills all at one time, but she said it is possible to overdose over a long period of time and destroy your organs slowly.

Dr. Nampiaparampil told Dr. Oz the maximum dose for acetaminophen is 3,000 mg per day, which is the equivalent of only six Tylenol. Dr. said it is important to read the ingredients in any medicine you take because acetaminophen is hidden in over 600 medications and it can be dangerous to your health.

Dr. Oz said it is easy to go over the recommended dose of 3,00o mg of acetaminophen especially when you are sick and trying to get better as fast as you can and taking numerous medicines at one time. When too much acetaminophen is taken, it will send your liver into the danger zone because it stops eliminating toxins in the body. Some of the signs of your liver is at risk are below:

  • Yellow color in your skin, nails, or eyes
  • Darker urine
  • Itchy skin

Dr. Oz says that while you need to read your labels and check for Acetaminophen, there are natural alternatives to the medicine to treat a headache. Even if the following doesn’t work, you can still take the acetaminophen but the dose needs to be checked.
